Say what you like about a McDonald’s breakfast, but there’s really nothing else quite like it. Whether you’re nursing a rough morning after or just fancy something greasy and golden, the McMuffins and Breakfast Wraps have their fans, but the hash brown tends to sit right at the top of most people’s list.
Back in 2024, the chain briefly launched a mini version of the beloved hash brown, and it went down brilliantly with fans. Now, after a fair wait, the bite-size version is finally making its way back onto UK menus.
What’s different this time around with McDonald’s mini hash browns?
There’s one change you should know about before you get too excited. Unlike the original 2024 launch, which let you buy a small portion of five on their own, this time you’ll only be able to get them as a sharebox. From August 25, a box of 15 mini hash browns will set you back £2.99, giving fans a proper amount to tuck into rather than just a handful.

McDonald’s has been fairly enthusiastic about the comeback, describing the golden crispiness of its hash browns as something nothing else quite matches, and calling the mini version a small but mighty hit when it first launched. According to the chain, they’re back for a limited run only, so you’ll want to grab a box while they’re around rather than assuming they’ll stick on the menu for good.
Fans are already getting excited for the updated menu drop.
Given how much love McDonald’s hash browns already get, it’s safe to assume the mini version will prove just as popular the second time round. Devoted fans haven’t exactly been shy about their feelings either, with one social media user declaring McDonald’s has the best hash brown in the world and refusing to hear otherwise. Another admitted they’d happily eat one every single hour if they could get away with it.
You’ll be able to get your hands on the mini hash browns both in restaurants and via McDelivery once they land later this month.

It’s been a good year for McDonald’s breakfast comebacks.
This isn’t the first time McDonald’s has brought back a much-missed breakfast item recently. The Breakfast Wrap made its own triumphant return back in February 2024, after years of customers begging for it to come back. It had originally been axed during lockdown restrictions, then confirmed gone for good in 2022, a decision that didn’t go down well with loyal fans.
The campaign to bring it back was relentless, with thousands of messages sent directly to the chain and dozens of petitions launched calling for its return. When it did finally come back, demand was so overwhelming that McDonald’s actually had to pull it from menus again after just two days, simply because restaurants were running out of the ingredients needed for other breakfast items.
Whether you’re a hash brown purist or a Breakfast Wrap loyalist, it’s clearly a good time to be a McDonald’s breakfast fan.
Between the wrap’s dramatic comeback and now the return of the mini hash brown sharebox, it seems McDonald’s has finally cottoned on to just how strongly people feel about their breakfast menu. If mini hash browns are your thing, it’s worth marking August 25 in the diary, since based on past form, there’s a good chance they won’t be sticking around forever.
