Beer and salty snacks have always been a natural pairing, so it’s no surprise combining the two into one packet has proven a real hit. Aldi’s limited edition German Pilsner flavoured crisps caused a stir when they first launched back in 2024, and demand was strong enough to bring them back again the following year.
Now, shoppers can get their hands on these cult favourite crisps once again, returning to shelves in time for Oktoberfest 2026. From 10 September, the beer inspired Specially Selected Crinkle Crisps will be available at Aldi, priced at £1.15 for a 150g bag.
As with all of Aldi’s Specialbuys and theme week items though, they won’t stick around for long. Once stock runs out, that’s it, and based on the reaction last time, they’re likely to disappear from shelves fairly quickly.
Why shoppers can’t stop talking about the flavour
Online reaction to the crisps has been largely glowing. One Reddit user described loving them, praising the delicious, subtly beery flavour running through each crisp. On Instagram, one reviewer described the distinctive, yeasty taste as weirdly accurate, while another commenter added that the crisps somehow manage to capture a kind of fizzy beer tingle alongside the flavour itself.
Reaction on Facebook has been similarly positive, with one shopper simply commenting that they actually taste like beer. Even Metro’s own lifestyle editor gave the crisps a perfect 10 out of 10, urging readers to go and try them for themselves.
A true fan favourite, even among the sceptics
According to Metro’s review, initial scepticism quickly turned into real enthusiasm after trying them. Despite rolling their eyes at yet another novelty snack being brought home, the reviewer ended up heading back to Aldi themselves for more bags while stock lasted.
The crisps were praised as moreish, offering the perfect crunch alongside a subtle lager flavour that never becomes overpowering, leading the reviewer to admit they never expected to care quite this much about a bag of crisps.
Plenty more German-inspired snacks are joining the lineup too.
If the German Pilsner flavour isn’t quite your thing, there’s still plenty else worth trying. Currywurst Sausage crisps are also returning to Aldi from 10 September, alongside a wider range of Bavarian themed snacks, including nutty Peanut Puffs and Paprika Potato Sticks.
It’s all part of a broader Oktoberfest inspired lineup hitting shelves this week, giving shoppers plenty of options beyond just the beer flavoured crisps if they fancy exploring the wider theme.
Aldi isn’t the only brand experimenting with bold new crisp flavours.
Aldi certainly isn’t alone in getting creative with crisp flavours right now. In August, Walkers launched two brand-new takeaway inspired flavours as part of its long-running Do Us A Flavour campaign.
According to the brand, Salt & Pepper Chicken combines garlic, spring onion, black pepper and aromatic Chinese inspired spices, while Grilled Cheese & Chilli Jam brings together rich melted cheese flavour with a sweet and spicy chilli jam twist. Only one of the two flavours will ultimately stick around as a permanent addition to the range, with Walkers’ senior marketing director saying the brand is excited to see which flavour ends up capturing the nation’s hearts and earning a permanent spot in the Walkers lineup.
