July is one of the busiest months on London’s transport network, with tourists, concertgoers, and commuters all competing for space.
The good news is that planned disruption is relatively limited compared to earlier in the year, with just four Tube lines affected by full or partial closures across the month. The Victoria, Northern, and Jubilee lines will see no closures at all, which takes some of the pressure off.
The biggest single disruption is the full weekend shutdown of the Hammersmith and City line at the start of the month, which will affect anyone heading to BST Hyde Park via Paddington. The Piccadilly line also has several closures across different weekends, so it’s worth checking ahead if you’re travelling to Heathrow or anywhere in that part of the network during July.

The Hammersmith and City closure is the one most people will feel.
The complete shutdown of the Hammersmith and City line on the first weekend of July is the disruption most likely to catch people out, partly because it impacts the whole line rather than just a section. Anyone travelling to BST Hyde Park for the Mumford and Sons or Duran Duran shows that weekend should plan an alternative route, since Paddington will be affected. Checking the TfL journey planner before setting off is the simplest way to find the quickest alternative.
The Piccadilly line closures are more spread out but affect a wider range of journeys across the month, including several Night Tube services. Anyone flying from Heathrow on the weekend of 11 and 12 July should note there’s no Piccadilly line service between Hammersmith and the airport, and the same applies to Heathrow passengers on the morning of Sunday 19 July before 8am. Allowing extra time and checking live updates on the day is sensible for both of those weekends.
There are London Overground disruptions to know about as well.

How to stay on top of any last-minute changes
Planned closures can change, and additional disruptions can be added with relatively short notice depending on engineering requirements or other factors. Checking the TfL website or app before any journey that involves lines affected by closures is the most reliable way to stay up to date, since the live service status updates in real time and will flag any changes from what’s been planned.
For anyone travelling late at night or early in the morning, when closures are most common, building in extra time and having a backup route in mind is always worth doing in July. The Tube map on the TfL app also shows planned closures for the week ahead, which makes it easier to spot potential issues before they catch you out at the station.
