Cadbury’s New Festive Treats Are Dividing Shoppers Online

Cadbury has just previewed part of its Christmas 2026 range, and shoppers reckon they’ve spotted something a bit too familiar. The new festive treats have already sparked plenty of comments online, with several people pointing out just how much they resemble products the brand released for Easter.

What Cadbury is actually launching for Christmas

Two new items have caught attention so far: a Dairy Milk Smash Bauble priced at £2.70, and a pack of three Cadbury Biscoff-filled Baubles for £3.29. The Smash Bauble is a hollow chocolate ball filled with chocolate buttons, while the Biscoff version is essentially a spherical, Biscoff-filled take on a Creme Egg.

Both products are already available to buy online through Cadbury Gifts, and they’re expected to land on supermarket shelves before too long, well ahead of the usual Christmas confectionery rush.

The “new” offerings look familiar to many shoppers.

Once the new baubles were shared online, comments quickly picked up on how similar they seemed to existing Easter products. Several people described the Smash Bauble as essentially a repurposed version of Cadbury’s Buttons Easter egg, just reshaped into a round bauble rather than an egg.

Others were more pointed about it, with one comment joking that Cadbury had simply swapped the shape from an egg to a sphere and called it new for Christmas. There was also frustration over how few buttons actually seemed to be inside the bauble, with some shoppers branding it a rip-off given the price, and a few suggesting the space would have been better used for something more seasonally appropriate, like chocolate snowballs.

Not everyone was against the idea, though.

Despite the criticism, plenty of people online seemed to be on board with the concept. Some described the idea of a Christmas Easter egg as brilliant, with a few going as far as calling it a genius bit of product thinking rather than a lazy rebrand.

It’s a fairly divisive launch overall, splitting opinion between shoppers who see clever repackaging and others who feel Cadbury has done the bare minimum to dress up an existing product for a different holiday.

What Cadbury has said about the backlash

A spokesperson for Mondelēz International, Cadbury’s parent company, confirmed the products are indeed joining the brand’s Christmas line-up this year, acknowledging that some fans had spotted an early preview before the official announcement. The company said full details of the wider festive range are still being kept under wraps, with a nationwide reveal expected soon.

The comment stopped short of directly addressing the comparisons being drawn to Easter products, focusing instead on framing the launch as early festive excitement rather than responding to the specific criticism circulating online.

If you’re looking for an alternative to Dairy Milk, there are better options.

For anyone who’s grown tired of Cadbury altogether, whether over the recent backlash or just wanting to try something different, a recent milk chocolate taste test turned up a close match. Morrisons’ own milk chocolate bar, priced at £2.30 for 200g, scored exactly the same overall rating as Cadbury Dairy Milk in a blind comparison.

Tasters described the Morrisons bar as sweet, creamy and not overly intense, with several noting it was almost indistinguishable from Dairy Milk in both texture and smell. The main difference spotted was appearance, with the Morrisons chocolate appearing slightly glossier and richer in colour. It’s also worth noting the Morrisons bar contains no palm oil, unlike Dairy Milk, and comes in cheaper too.
