Between the numerous sun-soaked beaches, ancient ruins, charming villages, and a food scene that’ll win you over instantly, there are almost too many reasons to visit this gorgeous (and completely underrated) country. If you’re ready to take the plunge for a week or even a weekend, here’s what not to miss while you’re there.

1. Wander through the ancient ruins of Kourion.

Perched on a clifftop overlooking the sea, Kourion is one of Cyprus’s most stunning archaeological sites. You’ll find a well-preserved Greco-Roman theatre, mosaic-covered villas, and crumbling bathhouses, all with a view that’s hard to beat. It’s the kind of place that makes history feel alive. Go early in the morning or just before sunset when the crowds are lighter and the light hits everything just right. You’ll feel like you’ve stepped into another world.

2. Take a dip at Nissi Beach.

Nissi Beach in Ayia Napa is famous for its soft white sand and turquoise water—and for good reason. It’s one of the most beautiful beaches on the island, and it manages to be both lively and laid-back at the same time. Whether you want to lounge under an umbrella with a cocktail or wade out into the shallow water to the little islet just offshore, it’s easy to spend a whole day here. Just don’t forget your sunscreen—the sun here means business.

3. Explore the charming streets of Lefkara.

This little village in the Troodos foothills is known for its traditional lace-making and silversmithing, but it’s the atmosphere that really draws you in. Think stone-paved alleys, colourful shutters, and locals greeting you with a warm “Kalimera.” Pop into the small shops for handmade lace and jewellery, grab a coffee at a quiet café, and just let yourself slow down. Lefkara has a calm, nostalgic vibe that makes it easy to fall in love with the simpler side of Cyprus.

4. Visit the Tombs of the Kings in Paphos.

Despite the name, no actual kings are buried here, but the grandeur of the tombs says otherwise. Carved from solid rock, these underground chambers date back to the 4th century B.C. and are hauntingly beautiful to explore. The site is surprisingly large, and wandering around the sunlit ruins gives you a sense of just how advanced and artistic ancient Cypriot culture really was. If you like your history with a side of mystery, this place delivers.

5. Drive through the Troodos Mountains.

If you want a break from the beach, head inland to the Troodos Mountains. The drive itself is a treat—winding roads, forested hills, and charming villages tucked into the slopes. It’s a total change of pace from the coast. Along the way, you can stop at scenic viewpoints, waterfalls, and old monasteries like Kykkos. In winter, there’s even a bit of snow. Whether you’re hiking, exploring, or just soaking in the views, it’s one of the most underrated parts of the island.

6. Indulge in a meze feast.

You haven’t truly experienced Cyprus until you’ve had a full-on meze meal. Think of it like a tasting menu of everything delicious—halloumi, grilled meats, dips, seafood, veggies, and more, all brought out in waves until you’re gloriously full. Head to a traditional taverna and take your time with it—meze isn’t something you rush. Pair it with a local wine or a cold Keo beer, and you’ve got yourself a proper Cypriot evening.

7. Discover Aphrodite’s Rock.

According to legend, this is where the goddess Aphrodite was born from the sea foam. Myth or not, the setting is undeniably magical—towering rocks, crashing waves, and a coastline that looks like it was made for postcards. You can’t climb on the rock itself, but the beach nearby is perfect for a wander. Come at sunset, and you’ll see why this spot has inspired poets and painters for centuries. It’s Cyprus at its most mythical.

8. Walk the medieval streets of Limassol Old Town.

Limassol is Cyprus’s second-largest city, but its old town still feels like a cosy maze of narrow streets, hidden courtyards, and historical charm. It’s a lovely place to spend a lazy afternoon exploring on foot. Start at the Limassol Castle, stroll past boutiques and coffee shops, and let yourself get lost for a bit. There’s a relaxed buzz to the area, especially in the evenings when everything lights up and locals fill the cafés.

9. Visit the Blue Lagoon by boat.

Near the Akamas Peninsula, the Blue Lagoon is one of those must-see spots that totally lives up to the hype. You’ll need to hop on a boat tour from Latchi or Polis to get there, but the ride is half the fun. Once you arrive, the water is crystal clear and warm—perfect for swimming or snorkelling. It’s a great way to escape the crowds and see a more untouched side of the island, especially if you’re after that perfect “hidden gem” vibe.

10. Watch the sunset at Cape Greco.

Cape Greco is one of the most scenic spots in Cyprus, with dramatic cliffs, hidden sea caves, and a walking trail that gives you unbeatable views. It’s beautiful any time of day, but at sunset, it’s next-level stunning. Bring a blanket, a snack, and someone you like spending time with. The sun dipping below the horizon, casting golden light over the sea, is the kind of memory that stays with you long after you’ve gone home.
