I’m convinced that literally no one likes Mondays — they’re the worst!

However, it would be kind of great if we could change that narrative. I, for one, would love to enjoy my Sunday rather than whinging about the week ahead. Instead of dreading Mondays, maybe we need to start using our Sunday mornings as a way to set the tone for what’s to come. Here are some things to do that will set you up for a great week ahead.

1. Craft a ‘Monday morning mantra’.

Words have power. Instead of starting your week with a groan, create a positive affirmation or mantra to repeat to yourself on Sunday and Monday mornings. It could be something as simple as, “I am capable and ready for the week ahead,” or something more personal and specific to your goals. This simple act can shift your mindset and set a positive intention for the day.

2. Have a ‘brain dump’ session.

Clear your mind of any lingering worries or to-dos by writing them down in a journal or on a piece of paper. This “brain dump” exercise can help you release any mental clutter and create space for clarity and focus. Once your thoughts are on paper, you can categorise them, prioritise them, and develop a plan to tackle them during the week.

3. Curate a ‘Monday motivation’ playlist.

Music has a powerful effect on our emotions and energy levels. Create a playlist of upbeat, inspiring songs that get you pumped up and ready to take on the day. Listen to it on Sunday morning while you’re getting ready for the week, and again on Monday morning to set a positive and energetic tone.

4. Treat yourself to a ‘Sunday sanctuary’ ritual.

Carve out some time on Sunday morning for a self-care ritual that nourishes your mind, body, and soul. It could be a long, luxurious bath, a gentle yoga session, or simply curling up with a good book and a cup of tea. This dedicated ‘me time’ will help you de-stress, recharge, and feel more prepared to face the week ahead.

5. Visualise your success.

Take a few minutes on Sunday morning to visualise yourself successfully navigating the challenges and opportunities of the upcoming week. Picture yourself feeling confident, productive, and accomplished. Visualisation can be a powerful tool for manifesting your goals and setting yourself up for success.

6. Express gratitude for the weekend.

Instead of focusing on the end of the weekend, take a moment to appreciate the good times and experiences you had. Write down three things you’re grateful for from the weekend, or simply take a mental note of the moments that brought you joy. Practising gratitude can help you carry that positive energy into the week ahead.

7. Plan a ‘Monday treat’ to look forward to.

Give yourself something to look forward to on Monday, no matter how small. It could be a delicious lunch, a coffee date with a friend, or something fun and relaxing to do in the evening. Having a little treat in store can make Monday feel less daunting and more enjoyable.

8. Get outside and soak up some sunshine.

Sunlight exposure can boost your mood, improve your sleep, and increase your vitamin D levels. Spend some time on Sunday morning enjoying the fresh air and sunshine, whether it’s going for a walk, having breakfast on the balcony, or simply sitting in the garden. This connection with nature can leave you feeling refreshed and energised for the week ahead.

9. Tackle a small, achievable task.

Completing a small task on Sunday morning can create a sense of accomplishment and momentum that carries over into the week. It could be something as simple as clearing out your inbox, organising your desk, or tackling a quick household chore. This small win will give you a sense of control and set a productive tone for the days ahead.

10. Set an intention for the week.

What do you want to focus on or achieve this week? Is it being more patient, completing a project, or spending more quality time with loved ones? Setting an intention for the week gives you a guiding principle to focus on and helps you prioritise your actions and decisions. Write your intention down and keep it somewhere visible as a reminder throughout the week.
